Rear Admiral Moinul Hasan takes charge as Coast Guard DG

Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hasan took charge as the new Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard on Thursday, replacing Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Haque.

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information in a press release on Thursday afternoon.

Rear Admiral Moinul Hasan formally assumed charge by signing the handover and takeover register. Senior Coast Guard officials and officers of different ranks attended the ceremony.

Rear Admiral Moinul Hasan joined the Bangladesh Navy on July 1, 1989, and was commissioned into the Executive Branch on January 1, 1992. He has undergone various important training programmes and higher education at home and abroad.

He is a distinguished graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College in Mirpur, the National Defence College in Mirpur, and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, India. He also completed the Naval Command College Course (NCC-2017) at the US Naval War College in Rhode Island.

His academic qualifications include an MSc in Defence Studies from the National University, Bangladesh, and an MSc in Strategic Studies from Tamil Nadu University in India. He also completed the Senior Staff Course at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre in Savar and is currently pursuing a PhD at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).

During his distinguished career, Rear Admiral Moinul Hasan has served in various important command, staff and leadership positions in the Bangladesh Navy with considerable skill and success.

He served as Commander Chattogram Naval Area and Commander Bangladesh Naval Fleet. He also served as the first Commandant of the Navy Training and Doctrine Command and as Commodore Naval Aviation.

As an experienced navigator, a significant part of his career has involved sea-going duties and navigation operations. He commanded a corvette, two offshore patrol vessels, three medium and small fast attack craft, and a missile boat.

He also served as Commanding Officer of the Flying Wing and played an important role in the development of the Bangladesh Navy’s Naval Aviation Wing. In addition, he served as an instructor at the Navigation School and as a Directing Staff at the Naval Wing of the Defence Services Command and Staff College.

At Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Moinul Hasan served in key staff positions including Director of Naval Planning and Naval Aviation, as well as Naval Secretary. He also served as Deputy Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

On the international front, he served as a military observer with the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Côte d’Ivoire from 2007 to 2008. He has also represented the Bangladesh Navy at various international military exercises, conferences and seminars.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to professional service, Rear Admiral Moinul Hasan has received the Bangladesh Navy’s highest peacetime award, the Navy Medal, as well as the Distinguished Service Medal and the Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal.

Under the leadership of the newly appointed Director General, the Bangladesh Coast Guard is expected to further strengthen its professional capabilities and become more modern and technology-driven.

His leadership is also expected to help enhance the force’s efforts to ensure security in the country’s maritime waters, coastal and riverine areas, maintain law and order, and protect the lives and property of the people.
