South Africa seal ODI series with 157-run win over Namibia

South Africa clinched the three-match ODI series against Namibia with a game to spare after defeating the hosts by 157 runs in the second match at the Namibia Cricket Stadium on Friday (September 11).
The victory was powered by 24-year-old opener Conor Esterhuizen, who scored a superb 119 in only his second ODI. His century earned him the Player of the Match award.
Esterhuizen had been dismissed for just 10 runs in the series opener at the same venue, which South Africa won by 99 runs in a rain-affected match. On Friday, however, the Johannesburg-born right-hander looked confident from the outset.
After Jordan Hermann was dismissed for 20, Esterhuizen and Tony de Zorzi put together a 183-run partnership for the second wicket, laying the foundation for a big South African total.
South Africa eventually posted 335 for nine in their 50 overs. Esterhuizen struck six sixes and eight fours in his 110-ball 119, while de Zorzi scored 79, including one six and six fours.
Chasing 336, Namibia suffered an early collapse. Michael van Lingen, Malan Kruger and Jan Frylinck were all dismissed without scoring, leaving the hosts in deep trouble at 32 for five.
Captain Gerhard Erasmus and Jan Baard then added 71 runs for the seventh wicket to give Namibia some hope. Erasmus top-scored with 68, hitting one six and six fours, while Baard contributed 26.
Namibia, however, failed to recover as South Africa’s bowlers maintained tight control. The hosts were eventually bowled out before reaching the target, handing South Africa a convincing 157-run victory and an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
