The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to launch separate probes into new allegations of corruption against former interim government adviser and National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan.

ACC Assistant Director Tanzir Ahmed said the decision was taken at the commission’s headquarters on Sunday.

He said a probe into earlier allegations of corruption and irregularities against Asif Mahmud is already under way, and the new allegations will be investigated as part of the existing probe.

The new allegations include bribery in recruitment at Dhaka North and South city corporations, trading in the appointment of deputy commissioners in different districts, taking commissions from tenders at various city corporations and laundering a large amount of money abroad.

The ACC had earlier launched an investigation into allegations of irregularities and corruption in recruitment and promotions at the Youth and Sports Ministry during Asif Mahmud’s tenure as its adviser.
