Bangladesh seeks stronger ties with India

Bangladesh wants to establish a stronger and more effective relationship with India, Foreign Affairs State Minister Humayun Kabir said on Sunday (September 13).

“Dhaka wants to build a new and effective relationship with India,” he said while speaking at a press conference.

Responding to a question about killings along the Bangladesh-India border, the state minister said Dhaka would seek to resolve the issue through diplomatic channels and discussions between the two countries.

He also said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would travel to the United States on September 21 to attend the UN General Assembly session. On the sidelines of the session, the prime minister is expected to hold meetings with world leaders on various issues, including the Rohingya crisis.

Regarding Saima Wazed Putul’s appointment at the World Health Organization, Humayun Kabir said the appointment of the daughter of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina had been flawed, describing it as embarrassing for the United Nations.
