A commercial ship came under attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, leaving one person dead and four others injured, according to Iranian state media.
The vessel was struck by a projectile near Qeshm Island in southern Iran, triggering a fire onboard, reports said. Rescue teams were deployed following the attack.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also reported that a vessel had been hit by an unidentified projectile while sailing through the strategic waterway.
The identity of those behind the attack was not immediately known.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region and growing concerns over the safety of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.
