Cristiano Ronaldo has called for lifetime stadium bans for supporters who taunted Al-Hilal midfielder Rúben Neves with chants referencing the late Diogo Jota during a Saudi Pro League match. The incident occurred during Al-Taawoun’s 6-0 defeat to Al-Hilal in Buraidah on Saturday, when sections of the home crowd chanted Jota’s name at Neves. The Portuguese midfielder was visibly upset by the chants.Neves was a close friend and former teammate of Jota and had been among those who carried Jota’s coffin at his funeral following the footballer’s death in a car crash in July 2025. Ronaldo, who played alongside Jota for Portugal, strongly condemned the behaviour and urged the Saudi Pro League to take severe action against those responsible. The Al-Nassr captain said supporters involved in such abuse should never be allowed to enter a football stadium again. -AAH
