Train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route resumed after nearly six hours on Sunday night following the recovery of a derailed carriage of a stone-laden freight train in Gafargaon, Mymensingh.

The accident occurred at around 5:15pm in the Golabari area between Kaoraid and Moshakhali railway stations under Mymensingh Railway Police Station. A carriage of a BT freight train carrying stones derailed, disrupting train services on the route.

Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Akhtar Hossain said a relief train from Dhaka arrived at the scene and recovered the derailed carriage at around 11pm. Train services resumed afterwards.

Before the recovery operation, the derailed carriage was left at the site while the other carriages of the freight train were taken to Moshakhali railway station.

Several trains, including the Dhaka-bound Tista Express, Dewanganj Commuter, Mahua Commuter, Jamalpur Commuter and Jamuna Express, remained stranded at different stations following the accident, causing significant suffering for passengers.

Mymensingh Railway Police Station sources said the situation in the area returned to normal after train services resumed.
