A fire broke out at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Monday evening, triggering panic among patients and their relatives.

The fire started around 6:00 PM on the third floor of the hospital's new building, where the paediatric ward is located.

Jhulhaz Uddin, station officer of Mymensingh Sadar Fire Service, confirmed the incident.

A unit from the Bangladesh Agricultural University Fire Station responded to the scene and brought the fire under control, he said.

However, heavy smoke was still billowing from the area, according to the fire service official.

A unit from Mymensingh Sadar Fire Station was also heading to the hospital, he said.

The cause of the fire will be determined after the smoke is completely cleared, Jhulhaz said.
