Nearly 4,000 tonnes of diesel arrive from India

Nearly 4,000 metric tonnes, or 4.7 million litres, of diesel have arrived at the Parbatipur Receiving Terminal Depot in Dinajpur from India through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.

The diesel came as part of the pipeline’s 72nd consignment. The transfer began at 9 AM on Saturday (September 12) and ended at 8:30 PM on Sunday (September 13).

Under a 2018 bilateral agreement, Bangladesh and India agreed to import around 2 million tonnes of diesel over 15 years. Since the pipeline was inaugurated in March 2023, Bangladesh has imported 330,087 tonnes of diesel through it.

The fuel is distributed almost equally among three state-owned companies - Padma Oil, Meghna Petroleum and Jamuna Oil.
