Asif challenges critics over alleged overseas assets

National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson and former interim government adviser Asif Mahmood Sajeeb Bhuiyan has challenged anyone to provide evidence that he has invested money, kept funds in banks or purchased property abroad, saying he would immediately quit politics if such proof is found.

He made the remarks in a Facebook post at around 9 PM on Monday (September 14).

He posted “If you can provide evidence that I have even one penny invested or kept in a bank abroad, let alone a villa or land—or even a speck of dust—I will immediately quit politics and accept whatever punishment I deserve.” 

He said investigative journalists and governments had previously uncovered properties owned by politicians and businessmen abroad, arguing that the government has the capability to conduct such investigations.

“How politically bankrupt do you have to be to investigate by copy-pasting a seven-month-old Facebook post from the AI-generated fake outlet Ajker Kantho?” he said.

Asif further accused the government of turning its attention to political drama after allegedly failing to counter the opposition politically within six months and failing in governance.

He also questioned whether the government’s alleged methods of suppressing the opposition were any different from those used by the Awami League.

His remarks came amid allegations and discussions surrounding politicians’ wealth and assets held abroad.
