DMP warns OCs, DCs over flash rallies by banned AL

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a stern warning to field-level officers following a recent flash procession in Gulshan by activists of the banned Awami League, cautioning that Officer-in-Charges (OCs) and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) will be held personally accountable if similar gatherings occur within their jurisdictions.

The directives were issued during DMP’s monthly crime review conference held at the DMP Headquarters on Monday (December 14), presided over by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed. Senior officials, Deputy Commissioners, and OCs from all 50 police stations across the capital attended the meeting.

DMP leadership emphasized that post-incident raids alone are insufficient, ordering field officers to gather actionable intelligence to prevent illegal gatherings and subversive activities before they occur.

"Following the sudden procession in Gulshan, instructions have been given to step up intelligence operations and surveillance at all entry points into Dhaka," said AFM Anwar Hossain Khan, Deputy Commissioner (DB Gulshan Division). "Block checks, night checkpoints, and tenant verification drives will be intensified across critical areas."

During the conference, officials reviewed the Gulshan incident, noting that field police received intelligence regarding the banned party's gathering only eight minutes before it took place, highlighting systemic gaps in early coordination.

To address these vulnerabilities, the DMP Commissioner ordered seamless intelligence-sharing between police units and external agencies, including DGFI, NSI, and CTSB.

However, the police leadership cautioned against indiscriminate harassment. Officers were instructed not to arrest individuals solely based on past political affiliations. Law enforcement action must strictly rely on concrete digital evidence, photographic verification, and technical analysis identifying direct participants.
