Titas gas field adds 12.5mmcfd to national grid

About 12.5 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) is set to be added to the national grid on Saturday from a well of Titas Gas Field, operated by Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL).

The additional supply is coming from Well No. 28 of the Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit formally inaugurated the gas supply from the Titas-28 well to the national grid on Saturday afternoon.

Officials said drilling of the well began on December 15 last year at Suhilpur in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila. A Chinese company carried out the drilling operation.

The well was drilled to a depth of around 3,526 metres, after which necessary testing and evaluations were completed.

Trial gas supply from the well to the national grid began on June 19. During the trial period, gas worth around Tk 200 crore was supplied to the national grid, according to officials.

The Titas-28 well will now supply around 12.5 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid on a regular basis.

Currently, 23 wells at the Titas Gas Field are in production, supplying an average of around 331 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid.

Officials expect the addition of the new well to further strengthen the country's domestic gas supply and help reduce pressure on the overall gas network.
