Sukher Khamar unveils BD’s first community-based agro resort design

Bangladesh’s first community-based agro-tourism project, Sukher Khamar Agro Limited, unveiled the design of its planned agro-resort at a ceremony in the capital on Friday. The company also handed over land purchase deeds to more than 150 partners for the resort, which is set to be developed in Kahaloo, Bogura.

The design was unveiled at a programme held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) as part of the 13th Asian Tourism Fair 2026.

Singer and music director Milon Mahmud attended as chief guest. Also present were Sukher Khamar Agro Limited Chairman Md. Tasdikh Habib and Managing Director Jobayer Islam, along with partners from home and abroad, tourism entrepreneurs, and well-wishers.

Agro-tourism blends agriculture and tourism. Farms and villages become destinations where city visitors join harvests, watch milking, and enjoy rural meals�"creating new income for farmers, jobs for rural youth, and making farming a respected profession.

The design features a 100-room agro resort with restaurant, convention hall, swimming pool and boating facilities, plus an integrated farm, 400-cattle dairy, bottom-clean fish farm, goat and sheep farm, 1 MW solar plant, biogas plant, and a Jame mosque with Hafizia orphanage madrasa.

Earthwork and roads are complete; full construction starts in October.

Running on a Sharia-based musharaka model, the project has over 1,000 partners from 21 countries and 42 districts, with land registered in each partner’s name. Deeds were first given at “Founder’s Night” on 25 July; more than 150 additional partners received theirs on Friday.

Chairman Md. Tasdikh Habib said: “Farmers in Bangladesh don’t get fair prices. Agro-tourism solves this�"they sell not just crops, but experiences. Smart agriculture is the next revolution, and Sukher Khamar is proof.”

Managing Director Jobayer Islam said: “In just one village, Sukher Khamar has already welcomed over 2,000 visitors and generated nearly one crore taka. We’re not just growing crops�"we’re cultivating a future. Friday’s design unveiling is a glimpse of that future.”

Sukher Khamar is Bangladesh’s first community-based agro-tourism project where the public becomes part-owners of the land through shares. Shareholders get a share of actual profits from 15 revenue streams, a free family stay at the resort once a year, and discounted farm products.
