Two dead, six injured in Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow region

At least two people were killed and six others injured in a “massive” overnight Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region, Russian officials said on Sunday.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defences shot down around 450 drones heading towards the capital in what he described as an “unprecedented attack”.
The attack damaged Moscow’s main oil refinery and set several homes on fire. Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyev said a 44-year-old woman was killed after a drone struck a three-storey residential building in Sofyino. Another five people, including two children, were injured.
An elderly man was also killed after a private house was hit in the Orekhovo-Zuevo district, Vorobyev said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Kyiv had struck a “key” Russian oil facility and a logistics site in the Moscow region. He said the facilities represented billions of dollars supporting Russia’s war effort.
The attack also disrupted air travel, with temporary restrictions imposed at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports. The restrictions were lifted by Sunday morning, although some flights remained delayed.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials said nine people, including three children, were killed in Russian attacks in the Kyiv and Sumy regions on Saturday.
Russia and Ukraine have intensified attacks on energy, transport and logistics infrastructure in recent weeks, despite US President Donald Trump saying the two sides had agreed to halt strikes on energy facilities.
