The government has issued a gazette notification increasing the fares of diesel-powered buses and minibuses by 17 poisha per kilometer following recent fuel price hikes.

The Road Transport and Highways Division under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued the notification on Tuesday, which was published on Wednesday (September 23). The revised fare structure took effect retroactively on September 22.

Under the new rate, bus fares in Dhaka and Chittagong cities rose from Tk 2.53 to Tk 2.70 per kilometer. Inter-district and long-route bus and minibus fares increased from Tk 2.23 to Tk 2.40 per kilometer.

Minibuses in Dhaka and Chittagong, along with buses and minibuses operating across Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, and Manikganj districts under the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), saw fares rise from Tk 2.43 to Tk 2.60 per kilometer.

Minimum fares remain unchanged at Tk 10 for city buses and Tk 8 for minibuses in Dhaka and Chittagong. The revised rates do not apply to gas-operated vehicles, and transport operators are required to display the official fare chart visibly inside each vehicle.

The adjustment follows a government price hike across all fuel types by Tk 20 per liter to align with global market rates. Under the new fuel rates effective from Monday, diesel and kerosene stand at Tk 135 per liter, octane at Tk 160 per liter, and petrol at Tk 155 per liter. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam announced the 17-poisha fare adjustment on Tuesday after meeting with transport owners.
