Over 1,500 checkpoints set up nationwide amid sabotage fear

Law enforcement agencies have blanketed the country with over 1,500 checkpoints to counter potential nationwide sabotage by the banned Awami League.

Concerns mounted following a wave of mid-September incidents in Dhaka, including crude bomb explosions and arson attacks on buses and train compartments.

In response to potential unrest, security forces have deployed personnel to key transit points, flyovers, and critical installations across the capital and nationwide. While several suspects—including members of the banned Chhatra League and Jubo League—have been arrested, many perpetrators remain at large.

Police Headquarters Assistant Inspector General (Media) AHM Shahadat Hossain stated that individuals carrying explosives or linked to crimes are under strict surveillance. He added that intelligence-led operations have already identified multiple suspects and field units are acting on continuous assessments.

However, repeated security breaches have heightened public anxiety, prompting criminology experts to critique intelligence coordination.

Chairman of the Department of Criminology of Dhaka University, Rezaul Karim Sohag questioned whether intelligence agencies are coordinating effectively and urged authorities to complement monitoring with proactive interventions, including installing CCTV cameras at vital locations.
