Teacher criticised over song video named Sylhet’s best teacher

Beauty Rani Pal, head teacher of Pithaitikar Government Primary School in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet, has been selected as the district’s best teacher despite facing criticism on social media over a video featuring her with the song ‘Shraboner Meghgulo’.
The information of the selected teachers was sent to the divisional primary education office through a memorandum signed by Sylhet District Primary Education Officer Sakhawat Ershad on Monday (September 22).
According to the district primary education office, four teachers selected from different upazilas were named the best teachers at the district level this year.
The other three are Md Jamal Uddin Laskar, head teacher of Jahiria Government Primary School in Sylhet Sadar; Nurjahan Begum, head teacher of Adampur Government Primary School in Osmaninagar; and Adori Rani Das, assistant teacher of No. 1 Chowdhurybazar Government Primary School in Golapganj.
District Primary Education Officer Sakhawat Ershad confirmed the matter.
Beauty Rani Pal came into the spotlight earlier after posting a short video on her Facebook account on July 23. In the video, she was seen walking in a blue saree with her saree’s anchal blowing in the wind.
The song ‘Shraboner Meghgulo’ was used in the video, which triggered discussions and criticism on social media.
In response, teachers from different parts of the country launched a symbolic protest on social media using the same song.
Beauty Rani Pal later thanked the people of the country, her family and journalists for supporting her amid the criticism.
Earlier, she was selected as the best head teacher in Sylhet district under the National Primary Education Award 2023.
She is a former student of the English Department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
