'Iran is a victim of terrorism': Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded directly to US President Donald Trump’s remarks at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday (Sepember 23), saying Iran and its people have been victims of terrorism.

“Yesterday, the US president described us as terrorists. We have been the victims of terrorism,” Pezeshkian said in his address. He accused the United States and Israel of attacking Iran and said Tehran had acted in self-defence.

Pezeshkian’s remarks came a day after Trump told the General Assembly that Iran was the “number one sponsor of terror” and warned that the Islamic Republic could face further military action if it did not agree to a deal.

The Iranian president also referred to civilian casualties from the conflict and said Iran had not targeted civilians. His speech came amid diplomatic contacts in New York, with the war and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz remaining major issues at the UN gathering.
