Trump acknowledges Iran war role in Republican midterm defeat

US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that the US-Israeli war on Iran contributed to his Republican Party's sweeping defeat in the midterm elections, as Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

"I think a part of it was Iran," Trump told Fox News in an interview on Wednesday. He separately told The Wall Street Journal that "Iran was a piece of it".

Despite the Republican losses in Tuesday's elections and his campaign pledge of "no new wars", Trump stood by his decision to attack Iran.
