Bus catches fire in Savar; journalist named in case

A bus parked beside the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar caught fire in the Radio Colony area early Monday, with a subsequent case naming a journalist among 40 accused.

The incident occurred around 2:40 AM on September 21. Fire Service personnel later brought the fire under control, and no casualties were reported.

A case was filed under the Explosives Act, naming 40 people and another 20–30 unidentified individuals. Journalist Md Kamruzzaman Khan, a senior reporter at The Daily Times of Bangladesh, was listed as accused No. 18.

Kamruzzaman denied involvement, saying he has been living in Dhaka and has not been residing in Savar for a long time. The Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) have expressed concern over his inclusion in the case.

Savar Model Police Station OC Saiful Alam said the investigation would determine whether the accused were involved and that anyone found uninvolved could be dropped from the case.
