Gas pressure to return to normal by this afternoon: State Minister

Gas supply and pressure across the country will return to normal by this afternoon as LNG unloading resumed on Friday morning after being temporarily disrupted by rough weather in the Bay of Bengal, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has said.
The state minister made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists in Jashore on Friday.
Explaining the local gas situation, Amit said there are no CNG filling stations or residential gas connections in Jashore. He added that there are also no major gas-based industries or power plants across Khulna Division, meaning the temporary disruption has not had a significant local impact.
Regarding the nationwide supply situation, he said imported LNG is supplied to the national gas grid from two Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) in the Bay of Bengal.
However, due to adverse weather, LNG could not be unloaded from a vessel as scheduled on Thursday, temporarily reducing gas pressure in parts of the country.
“Unloading resumed at 7:18 AM on Friday, and the overall situation will return to normal by the afternoon,” the state minister said.
Asked about fuel price adjustments, Amit said an opportunity to revise fuel prices domestically would arise if volatility in the global market decreases and international energy prices stabilise.
He said, the government would seek to reduce domestic fuel prices as quickly as possible if international prices fall, providing relief to consumers.
However, he said there is currently no plan to increase fuel prices further.
Earlier on Friday, the state minister attended a meeting of the Jashore District Hospital Health Management Committee at the Jashore Circuit House as the chief guest.
He directed authorities to improve hospital infrastructure and healthcare services and said a full-fledged Coronary Care Unit (CCU) would be ensured at Jashore General Hospital within the stipulated timeframe.
He urged the authorities to work in coordination so that heart patients in Jashore do not have to travel to other districts for treatment.
Jashore Civil Surgeon Dr Md Masud Rana, Jashore General Hospital Superintendent Dr Md Hossain Shafayat, reserved women’s seat MP Sabira Nazmul Munnis and other health officials attended the meeting.
