Khaled's county run adds to Bangladesh's pace options

Khaled Ahmed's county stint in England is giving Bangladesh's pace resources a timely boost, with the seamer continuing to produce wickets in conditions that demand patience, discipline and sustained pressure.

The Bangladesh international took three wickets for Kent against Gloucestershire on Thursday, helping his side bowl the visitors out for 229 at Canterbury in the final County Championship match of Kent's season. Khaled finished with 3-37, dismissing Daaryoush Ahmed, Sai Kishore and Che Simmons.

The performance came only days after Khaled played a central role in Kent's seven-wicket victory over Lancashire. He claimed eight wickets across the two innings in that match, taking five in Lancashire's first innings and three in the second.

That eight-wicket performance was particularly significant because it came during a tense stage of Kent's promotion campaign. Lancashire were dismissed for 161 in their first innings, with Khaled taking 5-42, before he added three more wickets when Lancashire made 192 in the second innings. Kent then chased down 140 to win by seven wickets.

Khaled joined Kent in September alongside Hasan Mahmud for the final four County Championship fixtures. Kent had signed him as a seamer capable of strengthening the attack during the closing stages of their red-ball season. At the time of his signing, he had 190 first-class wickets from 70 matches and 34 Test wickets for Bangladesh.

The experience has also come at an important stage of Bangladesh's Test planning. County cricket has given Khaled regular exposure to a different pace of red-ball cricket, while allowing him to work through longer spells against established first-class batters.

His latest run does not automatically determine Bangladesh's Test combination, but it strengthens the competition for places in the pace attack. With Khaled producing wickets in England and Bangladesh continuing to build greater depth in fast bowling, his county experience could prove useful when the national selectors assess their options for upcoming Tests.
