President congratulates PM on UNGA speech

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a message issued on Friday, the President described the speech as “visionary, resolute and guiding.”

Tarique delivered Bangladesh’s statement in Bengali at the UN General Debate on Thursday. In his speech, he said Bangladesh wants to build a prosperous, self-reliant and welfare-oriented democratic state by ensuring the political and economic empowerment of its people.

He also stressed democracy, human rights, good governance, accountability and political stability as key to development.
