Joty's T20 Captaincy Decision on Monday

 
Bangladesh Cricket Board is set to decide on Nigar Sultana Joty's future as the women's T20I captain after a meeting with the players on Monday.

Joty had informed the board before the Asian Games that she wanted to step down from the T20I captaincy after the tournament. However, the BCB has not formally accepted her decision, leaving the matter open for discussion.

BCB Women's Wing chairman Rafiqul Islam Babu is scheduled to meet the players on Monday and speak to Joty before discussing the issue with board president Tamim Iqbal. A final decision is expected after those discussions.

Joty's decision came after Bangladesh's Asia Cup campaign and was publicly confirmed during the Asian Games. She has said that she wants to concentrate more on her batting and contribute to the team as a player. She will continue to captain Bangladesh in ODIs.

The wicketkeeper-batter has led Bangladesh in T20Is since 2022 and guided the team to its first-ever T20 World Cup victory, against Scotland in 2024.

The board's decision will determine whether Joty's planned departure from the T20I captaincy takes effect and also set the direction for Bangladesh's next phase in the shortest format.
