Afghanistan claims 28 terrorists killed near Pakistan border

Afghanistan’s Defence Ministry said its forces killed 28 terrorists and wounded 32 others in Nuristan province after a group it said included Islamic State (IS) militants crossed from Pakistan.

On Sunday (September 27), the ministry said the group entered Kamdesh district near the Pakistani border on Saturday with plans to carry out attacks. Afghan forces launched an operation, after which surviving members reportedly fled towards Pakistani militia positions.

The ministry also alleged that Pakistani militias supported the group and that several former Afghan government security personnel were among those involved. Pakistan’s military and information ministry had not immediately responded to the allegations.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the Afghan ministry’s account or the reported casualty figures.
