Iran seizes US Navy submarine drone in Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has seized a US Navy submarine drone from the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key commercial waterways, the IRGC said in a statement on Sunday.

The IRGC Navy said the operation was carried out using a combination of intelligence surveillance and electronic warfare capabilities, during which it captured a US unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV).

According to the statement, the seized drone is a REMUS 600 autonomous underwater vehicle. The IRGC said the US military had been using the drone for surveillance operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC Navy said its personnel were attempting to retrieve intelligence data from the captured vehicle.

The IRGC also said it had seized another submarine drone from the Strait of Hormuz earlier in September.
