India imposes fresh duty on BD jute products

India has imposed fresh anti-dumping duties of up to $445 per tonne on jute products imported from Bangladesh, including jute yarn, twine, hessian fabric and jute bags.

The new duties follow a mid-term review by India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), which examined whether existing anti-dumping duties on jute products from Bangladesh and Nepal needed to be revised.

India’s Finance Ministry issued the notification on September 24, revising the duty structure for the remaining period of the existing anti-dumping measure.

The move comes as Bangladesh’s jute and jute-product exports have recently recorded growth, with earnings rising 37.09 percent year-on-year to $162.5 million in the first two months of the 2026-27 fiscal year.
