World Tourism Day celebrated in Sajek Valley

RANGAMATI, Sept 28: World Tourism Day-2026 was celebrated in Sajek Valley for the first time with a colourful programme organised by the Rangamati Hill District Council and supervised by the Cottage and Resort Owners Association of Sajek.

The Bangladesh Tourism Board and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation provided overall support to the programme, while local communities and tourism entrepreneurs in Sajek assisted in organising the event.

The day-long programme began with a roadshow from Rangamati to Sajek Valley; it has been joined by the chairman and officials of the Rangamati Hill District Council and representatives of the tourism sector.

Later, a colourful procession was brought out from the Sajek entry point to Zero Point following the hoisting of balloons.

Members of local communities participated in the procession wearing traditional dresses and showcasing their rich cultural heritage.

The programme also included a cleanliness drive, a tree plantation campaign and the inauguration of a traditional food court featuring foods prepared by members of the local Lushai, Tripura and Chakma communities.

An official session was held on the helipad premises, where invited guests were welcomed and speeches were delivered. The information portal website of the Cottage and Resort Owners Association of Sajek was also launched as part of the World Tourism Day observance.
