'Even the President’s wife will get family card'

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam has announced that the government plans to distribute family cards to every household in the country within the alliance.

Speaking at an event in Rangpur on Tuesday, Shahe Alam said no one would be excluded from the programme, adding that even the president’s wife would be entitled to a family card.

“Even the president’s wife will get a family card. No one will be left out of this benefit.''

The state minister also said that farmer cards would be distributed to farmers within the same four-year period.

Criticising a programme announced by an 11-party alliance, Shahe Alam alleged that such programmes were being organised unnecessarily to serve “an agenda of foreign countries.”

“If there is an oil crisis, how did the 11 parties carry out a long march?” he asked.

The state minister added that if long marches could solve problems, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) would have organised a march from Teknaf to Tetulia.

At the event, Shahe Alam also announced an allocation of Tk 1 crore for the Bir Shaheed Abu Sayed Foundation in Rangpur, including the construction of a house for Abu Sayed’s family and beautification of his graveyard.
