
JAMALPUR, Oct 2: Alhaj Azim Uddin Ahmed, a veteran politician and four-decade president of the Sarishabari Upazila BNP, died on Friday morning. He was 93.
He passed away at about 6 am while being transported to a hospital due to complications related to old age. He is survived by his wife, four sons, five daughters, and numerous relatives, friends, and political supporters.
Born in 1933 in Balardia Village to the late Jasim Uddin, Ahmed was a businessman by profession. He entered active politics under the guidance of late BNP Secretary General Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder and served continuously as the president of the Sarishabari Upazila BNP from 1981 until his death.
His Namaz-e-Janaza was held on Friday afternoon on the Riaz Uddin Talukder High School field in Sarishabari, followed by burial in the family graveyard.
BNP Acting Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi expressed profound shock over his death.
Local lawmaker and District BNP President Faridul Kabir Talukder Shamim also paid tribute. Leaders from various political, social, and professional organisations similarly offered their condolences.
