US actress Angelina Jolie has shared satellite images showing Gaza before and after the Israeli offensive, drawing attention to the extent of destruction in the besieged Palestinian territory.
Jolie posted the images on Instagram, saying that people can now see the condition of Gaza by opening Google Earth.
According to Qatar-based Al Jazeera, Jolie made the remarks in a lengthy post without directly naming Israel. She said large parts of Gaza had been reduced to rubble, while much of the infrastructure needed for people to survive had been damaged or destroyed.
Jolie said around 1.98 million people in Gaza require humanitarian assistance. She also pointed to restrictions and delays that continue to hamper the delivery of relief and shelter supplies.
“Google Earth now shows images of the devastation with unprecedented clarity,” Jolie wrote, stressing the need to provide shelter to displaced people before winter arrives.
She also called for humanitarian assistance to reach civilians according to their needs and urged the delivery of essential medical supplies to hospitals.
