A Dhaka court on Monday rejected a revision petition seeking to include Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam and eight others as accused in the murder case of Deepto TV broadcast executive Tanzil Jahan Tamim.
Dhaka’s 13th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zahidul Islam dismissed the petition, upholding the earlier decision to discharge the nine individuals for lack of specific evidence.
Tamim’s father and complainant Sultan Ahmed’s lawyer, Abdul Alim, said they would challenge the order before the High Court.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a charge sheet on December 10, 2025, against 13 people. It recommended discharging Rabiul Alam and eight others, saying investigators found no specific evidence against them.
The complainant challenged the recommendation in January, seeking further investigation. However, the court rejected the petition on March 3 and accepted the PBI charge sheet.
Tamim was attacked at his home in Hatirjheel on October 10, 2024 and died after being taken to hospital. His father filed a murder case the following day, naming 16 people and several unidentified suspects.
According to the case statement, the attack stemmed from a dispute over the distribution of flats in a building developed by Pleasant Properties on land owned by Tamim’s father.
The PBI later charged 13 people and submitted a separate prosecution report against a juvenile. Rabiul Alam’s lawyer, Masud Ahmed Talukder, had earlier said the minister was implicated in the case based on false allegations.
