Gazi Nazrul’s wife’s uncle sent to jail after remand

Obaidur Rahman, maternal uncle of Gazi Nazrul Islam’s second wife Mariam Khatun, was sent to jail on Monday (October 5) after completing a four-day remand in a case filed over her alleged suicide.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after police produced Obaidur before the court and sought his detention in jail until the investigation is completed.

Earlier, on October 1, another Dhaka metropolitan magistrate granted Obaidur four days’ remand for questioning in the case.

Mariam’s body was recovered hanging from a building at the MP Hostel in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on September 20. Her father, SM Masum Billah, later filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station accusing Gazi Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda Begum and Obaidur Rahman of abetting her suicide.
