Islami Andolan demands LPG price rollback

Islami Andolan Bangladesh has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the latest LPG price hike, calling for a reduction in the price and an investigation into alleged market manipulation.

Party Secretary General Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman made the demand in a statement on Monday. KM Shariatullah, chief coordinator of the party’s central media cell, confirmed the matter.

Gazi Ataur Rahman said the price of a 12-kg LPG cylinder was increased by Tk 252 from the evening of Oct 4, raising the retail price to Tk 1,837.

He alleged that the hike resulted from an artificial crisis created through market manipulation, despite there being no actual shortage of LPG in the country.

“The price hike will increase the financial burden on the vast number of consumers who depend on LPG for cooking,” he said.
