Five-day holiday approved for Durga Puja

The Cabinet has approved a proposal to declare October 22 a holiday, giving government employees a five-day break for Durga Puja from October 20 to 24.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Monday.

According to the government holiday calendar, October 20 is a holiday for Maha Navami and October 21 for Vijaya Dashami. October 22 was originally scheduled as a working day, followed by the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24.

With October 22 declared a holiday, government employees will enjoy a continuous five-day break from October 20 to 24.

The Ministry of Public Administration will issue a gazette notification declaring October 22 a holiday following the Cabinet's approval.

This year's Mahalaya will be observed on October 10. Maha Shashthi will be observed on October 16, Maha Saptami on October 17, Maha Ashtami on October 19, Maha Navami on October 20 and Vijaya Dashami on October 21.
