The testimony of prosecution witnesses in the murder case of actress Raima Islam Shimu has concluded, with a Dhaka court fixing October 26 for the accused to make statements in their defence.
Shimu’s husband, Sakhawat Ali Nobel, and his associate, S M Farhad, are facing trial in the case. On Tuesday, Dr Pragya Parmita Dutta of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital, who conducted Shimu’s autopsy, testified as the final prosecution witness.
Dhaka’s Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge Nusrat Jabin Nimmi fixed the date after recording her testimony. Of the 33 witnesses listed in the case, 20 have testified, court officials said.
Police recovered Shimu’s body, packed in a sack, from bushes beside a road in Keraniganj on January 17, 2022. She had been killed the previous day, allegedly following a domestic dispute.
Her brother, Harunur Rashid, filed the murder case with Keraniganj Model Police Station. Police later charged Nobel and Farhad and the court framed charges against them on November 29, 2022.
