BTRC has secured second place among 30 selected state-owned enterprises and autonomous organisations in an independent performance evaluation by the Finance Ministry, earning recognition for its governance, institutional efficiency, accountability and protection of public interest.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) scored 3.17 in the Independent Performance Evaluation (IPE) for FY2023-24, conducted by the Monitoring Cell of the Finance Division under its “Strengthening of State-owned Enterprises Governance” scheme.
The recognition comes as the telecom regulator faces growing demands to ensure greater transparency, efficiency and accountability while overseeing one of the country’s most strategically important sectors.
On Sunday, BTRC Director General Md Mehedi-ul-Shahid formally received the recognition and an honorary crest from Rahima Begum, Director General of the Monitoring Cell of the Finance Division, according to a press release.
The evaluation was conducted under the supervision of the Independent Performance Evaluation Committee (IPEC), comprising representatives of the Finance Division’s Monitoring Cell and relevant experts.
The assessment covered a broad range of performance indicators, including financial management, corporate governance, transparency and accountability, operational efficiency and implementation of public-interest policies.
BTRC’s second-place ranking reflects its performance against these benchmarks and highlights the regulator’s efforts to strengthen institutional governance and deliver its responsibilities more effectively.
The independent assessment is also expected to reinforce the importance of performance-based governance across state-owned entities and autonomous bodies, particularly those entrusted with regulating essential public services.
By securing the second position, BTRC has emerged as one of the better-performing institutions among the 30 entities assessed under the government’s governance-strengthening initiative.
