The Donald Trump administration is considering plans for possible fresh strikes on Iran ahead of the US midterm elections, The Atlantic reported, citing several US officials.

According to the report, the White House has instructed the Pentagon to prepare potential plans for strikes on various targets in Iran in the coming weeks.

The US midterm elections are scheduled to be held on November 3. Discussions are reportedly underway within the administration over possible military action against Iran before the elections.

US officials told The Atlantic that Trump has two key objectives behind the planning. He wants to lower fuel prices while also showing progress in the ongoing conflict with Iran and presenting it as a political achievement before the elections.

However, the scope and targets of any potential strikes are still being discussed. It is also unclear whether the Trump administration will ultimately launch an attack.

Trump has repeatedly said that the US-Israeli war against Iran would end soon. According to his previous remarks, the conflict could end shortly before or soon after the midterm elections.

However, the reported discussions over new strikes have added further uncertainty to the situation. No final decision has yet been made on the nature, targets or timing of any potential military action.
