NAOGAON, Oct 8: A 45-year-old worker was killed and four others were seriously injured when a boiler exploded at a rice mill in Hapania area of Naogaon Sadar Upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

The blast occurred as workers were steaming paddy at Haji Isarat Ali Rice Mill, sending thick smoke across the premises and triggering panic. Abdul Khaleque, son of Bashir Uddin of Hapania Para, was found lying on the mill floor and was later declared dead at Naogaon 250-bed General Hospital. The four injured workers are receiving treatment there. The mill owner fled after the incident.

Sub-Inspector of Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station Rezaul Karim said they are investigating the cause of the explosion and preparing an unnatural death case. Khaleque’s body was handed over to his family after legal procedures.
