Turkey will not deploy troops to fight Houthi militants despite its defence pact with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Thursday (October 8), according to Reuters.
Fidan said the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement is defensive in nature and does not require Turkey to launch offensive operations against another country.
He said Turkey was considering providing Saudi Arabia with defensive and technical support, including air defence, electronic warfare and military equipment.
Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in August, under which an armed attack on one member is considered an attack on all three.
