Bangladesh recovered from a late batting collapse to finish the opening day of the Test against Afghanistan on 317 for eight after losing six wickets for just 96 runs.
Bangladesh had made a strong start, reaching 221 for two at one stage, with half-centuries from Tanzid Hasan and Shadman Islam. However, the team lost its momentum as Afghanistan fought back.
Tanzid scored 83 and Shadman made 67 before returning to the pavilion. Litton Das also scored a half-century but could not convert it into a bigger innings, departing for 53.
Mominul Haque contributed 39, Najmul Hossain Shanto made 29 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 24. Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed for a duck.
At stumps, Nayeem Hasan was unbeaten on 11 off 33 balls, while Taijul Islam was not out on four off 10 balls.
Mohammad Saleem was Afghanistan’s most successful bowler, taking three wickets for 70 runs. Ismat Alam and Yamin Ahmadzai claimed two wickets each.
