Bangladesh's Under-19 side will face Afghanistan in a five-match Youth ODI series in Oman before returning to the country for the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup next month, giving the junior Tigers a valuable opportunity to prepare for the continental competition.
The bilateral series is scheduled for October 13, 15, 18, 20 and 23, with all five matches to be played at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground. Farid Hasan Faysal will lead Bangladesh's 15-member squad.
The series will allow the coaching staff to assess the team's batting and bowling combinations in competitive conditions. Facing Afghanistan repeatedly should also help Bangladesh identify areas to improve before the two sides meet again in the Asia Cup.
After the bilateral assignment, Bangladesh are scheduled to return home before travelling back to Oman on November 2. The Asia Cup begins on November 5 and runs until November 14.
Bangladesh have been drawn in Group B alongside Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. They will open their campaign against Afghanistan on November 5, face Sri Lanka on November 7 and complete the group stage against Malaysia on November 9.
The group offers little room for complacency. Afghanistan will already have faced Bangladesh in the preceding series, while Sri Lanka are likely to provide a strong test of the junior Tigers' progress. Bangladesh will need consistent performances across the group stage to secure a semi-final place.
Group A comprises India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates and Nepal. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals on November 12, with the final scheduled for November 14.
Bangladesh won the 2023 and 2024 editions of the tournament, and will be seeking another deep run. Their immediate priority, however, is to use the Afghanistan series to build match rhythm, settle combinations and improve execution under pressure.
The five matches in Oman will not determine the Asia Cup outcome, but they could provide an important measure of how ready Bangladesh are to challenge the region's leading youth teams.
