RANGAMATI, Oct 9: Police have assured tight security at 46 Durga Puja mandaps in Rangamati during the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja.
The assurance was given at a meeting on overall law and order at the office of the Rangamati superintendent of police (SP). Senior police officials and leaders of local Puja celebration committees attended the meeting.
Presided over by SP Mohammad Abdur Rakib, the meeting decided to take strict measures to ensure security at all 46 puja mandaps in the district.
“Police are committed to ensuring that the Sharadiya Durga Puja, the main religious festival of the Hindu community, is celebrated peacefully and festively in Rangamati, a district known for communal harmony,” the SP said.
He said police personnel in uniform would be deployed at the mandaps, while plainclothes officers would maintain special surveillance.
“A police control room will remain active round the clock to prevent any untoward incident and ensure emergency services,” he added.
Additional SP Mohammad Iqbal Hossain and Additional SP (Sadar Circle) Tarek Sekander also attended the meeting.
Nandita Das, District Council Member and Convener of the Puja Front; Swapan Kanti Mahajan, Acting President of the district Puja Celebration Council; Dayal Das, President of the Janmashtami Celebration Council; and Nandan Debnath, Editor of the daily Giridarpan, among others, also spoke at the meeting.
