The government has dismissed Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Tutul Chakraborty after a departmental inquiry found him guilty of misconduct, including leaving his workplace early and allegedly misrepresenting his rank to use an airport VIP lounge.
The Home Ministry announced the decision in a notification on Wednesday, saying the allegations had been established through an investigation. Chakraborty had been under suspension and attached to the office of the DIG of Rajshahi Range.
According to the notification, he left his workplace on November 13, 2025, before his approved leave began, without submitting the required departure report. He also allegedly identified himself as a DIG to access the VIP lounge at Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi before boarding a US-Bangla Airlines flight to Dhaka at around 10:20am.
The ministry said he had used the lounge on several previous occasions by introducing himself as the DIG of Rajshahi Range, tarnishing the image of the police.
Chakraborty was served a show-cause notice on February 5, 2026, but did not respond or seek an extension. An investigation launched on April 2 found the allegations established beyond reasonable doubt, according to the notification.
He also failed to respond to a second show-cause notice issued on June 16, asking why he should not be dismissed.
The government subsequently sought the Bangladesh Public Service Commission’s opinion, which recommended his dismissal on September 14. The proposal received presidential approval on October 5, leading to his dismissal under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
The notification said Chakraborty had been considered absconding since January 23, 2026, while under suspension.
