Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan on Friday said the party would not compromise on national interests, independence, sovereignty or the protection of public assets, warning that attacks, lawsuits and persecution would not deter it from continuing its political struggle.
“CPB cannot be suppressed through attacks, lawsuits or persecution,” he asserted, pledging to continue protests against any agreements, decisions or activities that run counter to national interests.
He made the remarks while presiding over a memorial meeting at Mukti Bhaban in Purana Paltan in the capital, marking the 40th death anniversary of Comrade Mohammad Farhad, former CPB general secretary and a key organiser of the 1969 Mass Uprising and the Liberation War.
Chandan said the interests of any individual, group or foreign power must not be allowed to jeopardise public assets or national interests.
CPB General Secretary Abdullah Kafi Ratan said Mohammad Farhad had demonstrated how to remain steadfast in one’s ideals and principles while continuing the struggle for people’s rights, even under adverse circumstances.
He said the CPB would intensify its movement to safeguard national interests, establish democratic rights and build an equitable society by following the path charted by Farhad.
