A devastating fire that broke out at Mansur Khan Plaza in Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar was brought under control after nearly 12 hours of intense operations by 10 firefighting units.
The blaze was fully brought under control at 5:20 AM on Tuesday (October 13), according to Talha Bin Zasim, Media Cell officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.
Fire Service officials confirmed that all goods stored on the sixth floor of the commercial complex were entirely gutted in the fire. Two firefighters fell ill from severe smoke inhalation while conducting operations inside the building and were subsequently hospitalized for emergency care.
The Fire Service highlighted that narrow alleyways typical of Old Dhaka, coupled with structural complexities inside the building, posed severe challenges to firefighters in reaching the flames and bringing the blaze under control.
The fire originally broke out on Monday (October 12) evening, with the Fire Service receiving initial reports at 5:04 PM.
