Home Minister and Constitution Amendment Committee Chairman Salahuddin Ahmed has said the July Charter will be implemented in the same manner as it was signed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
“Constitutional amendment is a commitment to the nation. The July Charter will be implemented in the same manner as the BNP signed it,” he said.
He made the remarks on Tuesday, October 13, after a meeting of the Constitution Amendment Committee.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, "additional issues could be incorporated beyond the July Charter if necessary, adding that the ruling party lacked no sincerity in implementing it."
“The July Charter will be implemented even if the opposition does not attend,” he said.
He added that the absence of the opposition would leave room for debate, but the nation would see whether the opposition honoured its commitments.
The committee chairman also expressed hope that the opposition would attend the special committee on constitutional amendments.
