A fire broke out on the second floor of Building No. 6 at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday evening, reportedly due to an electrical short circuit, but was brought under control before a Fire Service unit reached the scene.
The Fire Service received the report at 6:42 PM, duty officer Rozina Akter said.
She said the fire started in the ceiling above a bathroom on the second floor of the building. A Fire Service unit was dispatched immediately, but the blaze had been brought under control before it arrived.
The initial assessment suggests that an electrical short circuit caused the fire, she added.
The Bangladesh Secretariat is one of the country’s key point installations.
On the night of 25 December 2024, a major fire at the Secretariat damaged offices of five ministries housed in a nine-storey building. Nineteen Fire Service units worked for around six hours to bring that blaze under control.
Fire Service member Md Sohanur Zaman was killed after being hit by a truck while taking part in firefighting operations.
