Two murder-case accused arrested in Khulna

KHULNA, Oct 13: A team of Special Response Battalion (SRB-6) has arrested two named accused in a murder case over the death of Sajmir Islam, who was accused of stealing Tk 1 lakh, said a SRB-6 press release on Tuesday.

The arrestees are Akash, 22, and Sakib, 21. 

Akash is a resident of the Phulbari Gate area under Khan Jahan Ali Police Station, while Sakib hails from Senpara under Daulatpur Police Station. 

They are the third and fourth accused, respectively, in the case. They were arrested in separate drives conducted on Tuesday night.

According to press release, the arrests were made based on secret information. The two accused were later handed over to Khan Jahan Ali Police Station under Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) for further legal action.

According to the case statement, Sajmir Islam worked at a tea stall named Tanvi Store in front of the pocket gate of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) campus under Khan Jahan Ali Police Station.

On September 6, the two arrested men and other accused allegedly beat Sajmir severely, accusing him of stealing Tk 1 lakh.

They later left him in front of the medical centre on the KUET campus.

The statement further said the first and second witnesses rescued the injured Sajmir and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he died on September 10 while undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, Sajmir's mother, Shahanara Begum, filed a murder case with Khan Jahan Ali Police Station.
