India has rejected China’s objection to its decision to assign standardised names to 28 locations in Ladakh, asserting that the Himalayan region is an integral part of the country according to India Today.
The dispute escalated after India identified 28 geographical features in Ladakh, including mountains, peaks, glaciers, passes, valleys and water bodies, on maps published by the Survey of India.
The locations include Gogra and Hot Spring, which were key friction points during the 2020 military standoff between Indian and Chinese forces along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
China objected to the move, describing it as illegal and invalid while reiterating its territorial claims. Beijing also said it did not recognise Ladakh as a Union Territory established by India.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs rejected Beijing’s position, maintaining that Ladakh is an integral and inalienable part of India and that China’s objections would not change this reality.
The latest exchange highlights the longstanding territorial dispute between the two Asian neighbours, whose border tensions have persisted despite efforts to ease military friction and improve bilateral relations.
